Bring CD and DVD access to your compatible Mac with the Apple USB SuperDrive. This compact external optical drive lets you read supported discs and write to compatible recordable media, making it useful for accessing archived files, importing music CDs, installing disc-based software, or creating your own data discs.
Read and Write Optical Media
CD and DVD support: Read compatible CDs and DVDs without an internal optical drive.
Disc writing: Burn supported recordable CD and DVD media using compatible software.
Slot-loading design: Insert a supported standard-size disc directly into the drive.
Built-in USB cable: Connects through USB-A for data and power.
Desktop-friendly format: A compact external drive for a compatible Mac workspace.
Mac Compatibility and Connection
Designed for supported Mac computers that do not have a built-in optical drive. Check compatibility with your exact Mac model and macOS version before purchasing. Macs with USB-C or Thunderbolt ports require a compatible USB adapter. Connect the drive directly to the Mac or through a supported adapter rather than assuming a USB hub will supply the required connection and power.
Media and Software Requirements
Disc playback, importing, and burning require compatible media and software. This is a CD/DVD drive, not a Blu-ray drive. Older disc-based applications may not run on current macOS versions even when the disc itself can be read. The drive receives power through its USB connection and does not need battery charging.
